It all started when Anastasia, a new mother, couldn’t find a breakfast cereal or granola cereal good enough to feed her children.
Raised on the Mediterranean diet and motivated by the blossoming environmental movement advocating the return to traditional plant-based diet, whole grains, plant protein and clean food, Anastasia decided to create her own healthy granola recipe for her family.
Not a simple task at the time! She began by seeking out hard-to-find granola ingredients from sparsely located health food stores. After some experimentation, the first batches of fragrant organic whole grains, walnuts, seeds and honey started coming out of the kitchen oven. Delicious granola became the perfect breakfast, offering the wholesome goodness and nutritional balance of the traditional Mediterranean diet to the family.
In reality, Ambrosial Granola started much earlier than the '80s. There were many influences in Anastasia’s life that led her to pursue this passion. Born at the foothills of a mountain on the northern part of Greece, in the fertile land of Macedonia, she grew up near the family peach and apple groves surrounded by farmers, wine makers and entrepreneurs.
This pristine land looked small, though, and the wider world was calling for exploration upon completion of high school. Athens was the first stop where she studied political science. New York was the second. She came with her husband as a student of sociology and social research. Those were the early '70s, an exciting point in time to live in the heart of New York City and experience first-hand the dramatic changes that were taking place at the time.
Excited with her new role as a mother in the '80s, and determined to raise the family with the healthy Mediterranean diet, she balanced family and career as a social researcher in the not-for-profit sector.
Having fed her family for many years on her homemade granola recipes, when the time came to step away from her professional career, the second one was already on the making...
The homemade granola recipes are made with the same uncompromised passion for quality a few decades later. Anastasia is the heart and soul of the family owned and operated company. With the same activist mindset that we all should be “part of the solution,” she is making sure that Ambrosial Granola offers the absolute best products, nourishing clean food that tastes great and is good for our family and yours.
There are some things that have changed since the beginning – the children are grown ups now and granola is not only for hippies anymore. What remain unchanged are our values and quality standards.
After all, our children and their friends love to eat mom’s organic granola and muesli, now right from the bag because they need to accommodate their busy lives.
